Welcome to Santa Rosa Christian Athletics
Athletic Director Bary Willcox
The Santa Rosa Christian School athletics
program provides an arena wherein
student-athletes are guided towards excellence
in physical performance and leadership through
the integration of Christian principles and
values, while participating in interscholastic
sports at the highest possible levels. The
athletic program is a source of school spirit at
SRCS, offering many opportunities for enjoyable
accomplishments and successes, which allow
coaches, athletes, and supporters to bring glory
to God. Through the collaborative efforts
of all, an opportunity is created to show the
community that SRCS student-athletes are
committed to developing skills for a lifetime
and character for eternity.
The SRCS athletic program strives to
encourage in each student-athlete five
distinctives that develop the mind, body and
spirit as well as instilling a desire to be
Christ-like in effort and attitude.
A team establishes many goals, none of
which should be greater than bringing glory
to our Lord and Savior. As a Christian
school, we should be obviously different in
our attitude and actions. We are
called upon by our Lord to be a "light on a
hill" in all athletic contests.
We should accept actions on the field as
an indication of the true person, rather
than excusing them because an athlete may be
under stress. Our language and
behavior on the field or court should be the
same as that in the pew, living room or
classroom.
The Bible instructs us not to place our
worth in circumstances, but in the position
we have in Christ. Our self-worth is
not to be determined by a win-loss record.
Success needs to be based on the
character of the athletes we are developing, on
the characteristics and qualities our
athletes are claiming for themselves; not on
our season's win-loss record.
All authority comes from God (I Peter
2:13). Human authorities will make
mistakes that often times have a negative
impact on us. Our "response" to the
situation reveals our true character. Are we
willing to accept injustice, which is common
to all men, in a way that would further the
cause of Christ? We cannot change the
conditions so why not live "above" them and
let people see the difference.
Our God has created many vehicles that
are intended to teach us about life.
We need to provide an environment through
which God's truths can be effectively
communicated. In athletics, one
experiences all human emotions from joy to
sorrow, pride to humility, and camaraderie
to loneliness.
