SRCS - A Strengths-Based School
One of SRCS’ distinctives (things that make us stand out from other similar schools) is the school’s commitment to being a STRENGTHS-BASED School®*. This approach is founded on 4 decades of research by the Gallup Organization. As a result, SRCS believes that each individual has been born with God-given Talents through the Lord’s common grace toward us all. Each of us has specific God-given talents.
Ephesians 2:10 tells us that we are God’s masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. And in Psalm 139:13-18 we are told that each of us was designed by the Lord, in detail, long before we were born. He has given us everything we need pertaining to life and godliness. (2 Peter 1:3)
For us at SRCS, this means that each child enrolled (and employee!) has specific, God-given talents that give them the ability for age-level, near-perfect performance in learning tasks, artistic activities, athletics or social interactions. All areas of a student’s life are enhanced through these God-given talents.
SRCS students are assessed for their Talents in grades 6-8 (top three themes of Strength) and again in grades 9-12 (top five themes of Strengths). This is not a personality test or an IQ test – it is far more global. Students receive instruction in applying their God-given Talents and are encouraged by our faculty and support staff to approach all facets of school and life using the Talents the Lord has given them for His glory, the benefit of others and their personal good.
A student’s Talents become “Strengths” through the following formula:
Talents + Knowledge + Experience/Skills = a Strength
(SRCS parents are also offered training in this very significant educational approach for their own lives and also for their influence on their student. )
